Make Your Bed by Admiral William H. McRaven

Make Your BedIf you’re looking at the dates of my Book Reviews you’ll notice something… strange. While I read quite a bit, I haven’t done a book review here on the blog in over FOUR years. That’s really sort of strange, but it speaks to type of reading I’ve been doing. I do a lot of Internet browsing / reading but it’s been forever since I sat down and just… read. That changes a few months back when my wife handed me Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World by Admiral William H. McRaven.

In a word, this was great. It comes from a commencement speech McRaven gave in 2014 – 10 principles learned during Navy SEAL training. He uses examples from his military career to illustrate otherwise generic advice.

I’ll include the 10 lessons below but believe me when I tell you that you’ll want to read this book to really ‘get’ the impact of what the author is trying to say. You may be able to get the ‘gist’ from just reading the principles but you won’t understand the full weight of what’s going on.

The book is only 12 short chapters, short chapters at that. This is the perfect book to read a few minutes a night before bed.

Do yourself a favor… watch this video, which is an excerpt of the speech that the book comes from:

After that… go out and get yourself a copy. It’s a quick 130 page read that you’ll cruise through. And it may just change your life.
