More Lyrical Brilliance From Sammy Hagar – Kama

Marching To Mars by Sammy HagarThere’s a bunch of stuff going on in the world and in my personal life right now.  My heart goes out to those affected by the bombings at the Boston Marathon yesterday.  During these times I often turn to music to get me through.  Today my iPod shuffled to an outstanding song called Kama by Sammy Hagar which I just had to share.  Per Sammy, the word “Kama” is the Sanskrit translation for “love”.  He wrote the song for his daughter who is also named Kama.

This song comes from the 1997 album Marching To Mars.  It’s Sammy’s first post-Van Halen album and it’s a damn good one (especially if you’re like me and you’re a Sammy fan.)  Interestingly, this song features Matt Sorum of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver fame playing the drums.

I’ve often said that if we ever had a girl I’d love to name her Kama because of this song.  I’m sure The Wife would veto this idea but I still think it’s an amazing idea.  Check out these amazing lyrics…

“Kama”

Today, love takes on a whole new meaning
In a face, I know I’ve seen somewhere before, oh yeah
Somehow, the mystery is over
Yet, just begun
To see the most perfect thing
Together, we’ve ever done

[Chorus:]
So what do we call this miracle we’ve made
And how can I find one word to say it
When all I’m feeling, here and now, is love
So that will always be you
Kama

Today, I just wrote a song about you
The words, they flow just like the air I breathe, oh yeah
The closest I’ve ever been
To truly understanding
The closest we’ll ever be
To the meaning of life so sacred

[Chorus:]
So what do we call this miracle we’ve made
And how can I find one word to say it
When all I’m feeling, here and now, is love
So that will always be you
Kama

And every language has a word
But the meaning is always the same
Love is all you’ve got, to start out in the world
And love is all that remains

[Chorus:]
So what do we call this miracle we’ve made
And how can I find one word to say it
When all I’m feeling, here and now, is love
So that will always be you
Kama

Sammy has done an amazing job capturing a feeling with these lyrics and this ballad.  I don’t think this song was ever released but it’s one of my favorite Sammy songs he’s ever recorded.  If you’ve never heard it give it a listen below.  You can check out Kama on the web on her site at http://www.kamahagar.com/
