Triggered By a GIF

Before I start out I have to say… this is 100% true. I’m not making this up in the slightest.

Like most of you, my company utilizes group chats to do our work. If you recall, July 4th this year was on a Friday. So, on Thursday the 3rd I posted a GIF of fireworks to my team’s group chat with a message with well wishes for the weekend. I thought it was pretty harmless.

Fireworks GIF - Triggered By This?

Apparently… I was wrong.

I came back to work on Monday and was greeted with this message from a co-worker.

OG Message No Name

What. In the actual. Fuck.

Now keep in mind… while this guy IS  a co-worker (meaning we work for the same company) he’s NOT someone I work with. I’m not even sure I’d know his name and I certainly couldn’t pick him out of a crowd. I say this just to explain this wasn’t one of my buddies busting my balls or making a joke.

Nope… this guy was 100% serious. He’s triggered by a GIF of fireworks.

Now… I’m not for a single second making light of, or fun of, PTSD. I know it’s a legit thing and I’m sure it is awful. I just have a really hard time believing that a GIF, posted to a group chat, would be a problem.

Don’t ask why it took me so long to write this… I have no excuse other than to say it was in my drafts for a while.

Excuse me while I go an ponder a world where people are triggered by a fireworks GIF.

FML.
