Episode #100 Overview
Chewie and Pip are finally back – and they’ve officially reached Episode #100 of The 406 Podcast.
After more than three months away from the microphones, the guys catch up on everything that’s happened over the summer, starting with family, baseball, their latest Indianapolis brewery meetup, and the realization that their first trip to Sun King together happened all the way back in 2012.
From there, it’s the kind of wide-ranging conversation that has defined the first 100 episodes of the show. Pip reviews James Gunn’s Superman and Sinners, Chewie gives an update on finally finishing Cobra Kai, and somehow the conversation takes a detour into The Devil’s Advocate, Al Pacino, Charlize Theron, Connie Nielsen, Action Jackson, and the current state of the MCU.
Then it’s time for wrestling.
Chewie and Pip dig into WWE’s changing streaming landscape, the move of premium live events to ESPN, the first two-night SummerSlam, Seth Rollins’ memorable cash-in, John Cena and Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar’s return, and what Cena’s final run should ultimately look like. They also discuss Goldberg’s retirement match, Bret Hart’s increasingly bitter public persona, and the challenge of separating the performer from the person.
That leads into the biggest discussion of the episode: Hulk Hogan. Chewie and Pip wrestle with Hogan’s complicated legacy while looking back at the enormous role the Hulk Hogan character played in their childhoods and in transforming professional wrestling into what it is today. They finish by sharing some of their favorite Hogan matches and moments.
Finally, after more than two hours of movies, wrestling, nostalgia, and plenty of random tangents, Chewie and Pip reflect on reaching 100 episodes – and make it clear that The 406 Podcast isn’t finished yet.
