The Overbooking of Hell In a Cell

Undertaker, Shawn Michaels & HHHAs you know by now, HHH and The Undertaker will once again be facing off at this year’s WrestleMania, this time in a Hell In A Cell match.  The WWE has upped the ante one step further by adding Shawn Michaels to this match as the special guest referee.  That’s a very bad decision in my book… and here’s why.

First, I’ll preface this by saying I’m a HUGE fan of the Undertaker.  On any given day he’d either be #1 or #2 on my all time list of favorite wrestlers.  I’m on record as saying there’s no way that “The Streak” should end, especially to a guy like HHH.  That said, there’s essentially 3 ways this thing can go now that Shawn Michaels has been added and quite frankly they all suck.

Scenario #1 – Shawn Calls It Down The Middle
This is the way it should be.  The Streak should stand on its own merits and shouldn’t be tainted by a screw job finish either way.  If that’s the case, then why the hell is Shawn here?  If we just need a ref to call it down the middle and count the 1-2-3 at the end of the match (and an era) there are much more capable folks than Shawn.  HBK was a great wrestler, but unless he’s planning some sort of a comeback (please Shawn… stay retired) then there’s no reason for his involvement here.

Scenario #2 – Shawn Screws HHH
If I had to guess, this is where they’re going.  Shawn is going to screw over HHH allowing Taker to pick up the victory and run The Streak to 20-0.  But why?  A cheap win like this is going to be very unsatisfying for Taker and his fans and I don’t see him going out like that.  With the rumors that this may NOT be Undertaker’s final WrestleMania match, I’m guessing this will allow them to build to HHH vs. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29… and that would suck.

Scenario #3 – Shawn Screws Taker
This would be all kinds of wrong on so many levels.  Not only would The Streak be ended, but it would be to a guy that didn’t need it and it would have been a crappy way for Taker to go out.  IF (and that’s a big if) Undertaker is going to lose, he should do a clean job in the middle of the ring.  And if Taker gets screwed over, do you think he’s just going to let it go?  No chance.  This scenario STILL sets up some sort of program with Taker and Shawn… and that would suck.

And finally, here’s how I think it should play out.  I’m hoping that either on the RAW before WrestleMania, or before the match starts one of two things happen.

  1. Shawn cuts a promo and says Taker and HHH deserve the spotlight on their own and he’s going to step aside.  This would be what I’d prefer for the reasons listed above.
  2. Undertaker or HHH beat the shit out of Shawn cause they want to go one on one with no interference.  This would be acceptable as well.

What do you think?  How’s this match going to go down?  Do you like Shawn’s involvement?

  1. I am looking for a place around Cleveland/Akron that is hosting WM28 that is willing to have us. We have money to help chip in as well. Was wondering if you had the inside scoop of where to find a venue to watch it?

    Thanks!

    1. @Chris – The only place that I’m aware of that’s hosting the event is in Parma called The Fox & The Hound. Also, I know there are quite a few BW3s in the area that tend to show most MMA fights. May be worth a call to see if they’re showing Mania. Good luck!
