Unpaid Tolls Scam

Received the following text message this AM claiming I have unpaid turnpike tolls.

We do a ton of driving on toll roads and because of this we have an EZ Pass. That said, with all the travel we do for baseball, basketball and vacation every now and then the EX Pass messes up. In any case, a quick Googling showed me THIS article which puts it to bed for me: https://www.myantispyware.com/2024/07/23/ohioturnpiketoll-com-text-scam-or-real-should-you-be-worried/

Side note – I tried to post this link to Facebook and got this message:

Do better Facebook. Your fact checking is a joke. But I digress.

From that link: Scammers promote this fake website through convincing text messages that warn of additional charges if users don’t settle their supposed balance. The only websites for Ohio Turnpike’s E-ZPass accounts are ezpassoh.com and ohioturnpike.org not Ohioturnpiketoll.com.(or in my case OhioTurnPikeTolls.org) The website Ohioturnpiketoll.com is registered to someone in Peru, not associated with Ohio Turnpike.

And that’s exactly what they did. They’re spoofing Ohio.gov websites to try and make it look like they’re legit. They’re not. This is a scam.

Unpaid Tolls Scam – Don’t Fall For This

As you can see, very convincing website. What gives it away is that there’s nothing pre-filled, nothing specific to YOUR car or YOUR violation. They’re asking for all sorts of personal information but they’re not even asking for ANY info on your car. You’d think at the very least they’d ask for a plate number.

Bottom line… don’t fall for this.
