I’ve said it on numerous occasions, but it’s not often that the wife and I find a movie that we’re both interested in seeing. The last one that we agreed looked good was The Break-Up which didn’t turn out too great. But I digress.
We were interested in Date Night (2010) cause we like both of the movie’s stars (Steve Carell of The Office fame and Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live). Also, the first trailer for this one we saw absolutely cracked us up. If you haven’t seen it, check it out on YouTube here. I’m not quite sure what happened, but I’m thinking that both the wife and I saw only the first 50 seconds or so of the trailer and made our decision to see this one based on that. I was expecting a funny SNL/Office style romantic comedy… and that’s what we got for about 15 minutes.
However, after a case of mistaken identity pummels this evening for our stars, we quickly evolve this romantic comedy to what amounts to a buddy-cop action movie… almost. There’s car chases, killers, blackmail, strippers and one very shirtless Marky Mark (yeah… that Marky Mark).
Date Night – Recommendation
I won’t say it was a bad movie, but it was actually quite enjoyable. There were numerous times throughout the movie where A and I just looked at each other and laughed. Though to be honest with you I’m not sure that non-married folks would really enjoy those jokes all that much (the scenes with the kids and their normal “date night” are hilarious to us old “married with children” types). That being said, I’ll give this one a mild recommendation with the suggestion that you watch the entire trailer before you give this one a rental. Enjoy!
