2013 – A Retrospective Look Back At The Best Of 406

The Top 10 Of 2013

I started doing these “Best Of” recaps back in 2010.  I don’t blog nearly as often as I’d like to but I really do enjoy looking back at these year-in-review posts.  It’s always interesting to see what posts make the list and to see if there are posts that prevail through the years. For 3 years running, my list of Top 80?s Action Movies has held the top spot on this list.  Will it hold onto … Continue reading

Meeting Barry Bostwick – The Good Guys Always Win

Chewie & Barry Bostwick

If you’ve read my stuff here you know that I’m a bit of a geek.  I tend to get a bit lost in my childhood and have a tendency to like some stuff that’s a tad bit out of the norm.  One example of this is my love for the 80’s action flick MegaForce.  It’s a supremely terrible film that I happen to absolutely love.  In fact, I listed is as #1 on my list … Continue reading

The Weekend That Was: Movies, Breweries & WrestleMania 29

Chewie With The Great Lakes Brewery Flight

I’m several weeks late on this post, but I wanted to make sure that I put a recap post together from Pip’s yearly trip to Cleveland.  Unlike recent years we actually had some semblance of an agenda that we miraculously managed to stick to!  I find that as the years go on I tend to look back on these posts more and more.  I’d like to say its because I want to look back at … Continue reading

A Look Back At 2012 – The Best Of 406 Northlane

The Top 10 From 2012

For the last couple of years, I’ve done a yearly recap post taking a look back at my blogging for the year and looking at the “best” posts based on how many views they received.  On the 2010 list, the Top 80’s Action Movies post took top honors.  That same post was at the top of the 2011 list.  What will be in the top spot this year?  Without further fan fair .. let’s get into it. … Continue reading

2011 – The Best Of 406

The Top 10 Of 2011

I started doing a yearly recap last year.  During the past year, I’ve found myself referring to that post quite a few times so I figured I’d do it again this year.  Got something you want me to cover in 2012?  Drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do! The Top 10 Posts Of 2011 (Based On Number Of Views) #10 – Thoughts At 35 No matter how hard I try, I … Continue reading

The Best Of The 411 From 2010

Top 10 2010

These types of lists typically come out at the beginning of the year.  I’m all for giving convention the middle finger so I’m doing it in the day after St. Patrick’s Day.  Got a problem with that?  🙂  Part of why I keep this blog is as some sort of  “outlet” for my creative juices.  Another is that in this day and age this is about the only “cool” way for a guy to keep … Continue reading

You Really Can’t Go Wrong With Some Kenny Loggins

Kenny Loggins Album

I’ve said it time and time again… I’m a geek. 80’s movies are my wheelhouse ranging anywhere from science fiction to action movies to horror. Many times these movies come complete with some cheesy soundtrack and when we’re talking soundtracks no one does it better than the man… Kenny Loggins. I’m Alright – Caddyshack (1980) I can’t embed it here, but if you want THE edition of this song you’ve got to check it out … Continue reading

“Date Night” – Maybe We Weren’t Paying Attention

Date Night (2010)

I’ve said it on numerous occasions, but it’s not often that the wife and I find a movie that we’re both interested in seeing.  The last one that we agreed looked good was The Break-Up which didn’t turn out too great.  But I digress. We were interested in Date Night cause we like both of the movie’s stars (Steve Carell of The Office fame and Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live).  Also, the first trailer … Continue reading

On A Break With A Ninja = Vendetta

V For Vendetta (2005)

V For Vendetta (2005) Another story from comic legend Alan Moore.  Watching this movie I couldn’t help see the similarities with Watchmen (a post “bad shit” look at a city) and recognize just how fucked up Moore really must be.  Natalie Portman plays a great role here as does Hugo Weaving (though he’s clad the entire movie in a mask so all you’re hearing is his iconic voice).  At times this was a very slow … Continue reading

Top 80’s Action Movies

First Blood (1982)

It’s been quite some time since I came up with any kind of a Top 10 list.  I was flipping through the channels the other night in a hotel room and ran across First Blood on AMC.  Naturally, I sat there and watched it till the end and it got me to thinking what a great era the 80’s was for action flicks. HONORABLE MENTIONS Revenge Of The Ninja (1983) – When I think of … Continue reading
