Sting Vs. Undertaker At WrestleMania 32 – Get Ready

Sting UndertakerIt’s a match that wrestling fans have been clamoring for for years… decades even.

Sting Vs. The Undertaker
The Icon vs. The Phenom
WCW vs. WWE

For years this match was nothing but a pipe dream as Sting had stayed away from the WWE for his entire career. But when he decided to finally enter a WWE ring there was a glimmer of hope. Then Sting went on to face HHH (and lose) at WrestleMania 31 and we were left scratching our heads… would we ever get that match?  And possibly more importantly, do we want to see that match?

Do You Want To See Sting Wrestle The Undertaker At WresleMania 32?

I’ll preface this by saying The Undertaker is my all time favorite wrestler.  My answer?

HELL NO.

It’s WAY past the time where I’ve wanted this match. Sure it’d be a spectacle, but it’s at least a decade too late.

Sting had to rely on HHH to carry his match this year (and even that included a slew of outside stuff to get it to the finish line). Taker, while he looked infinitely better than he did last year against Lesnar, still was sub-par at best this year against Wyatt.

All of that being said, I’d bet my paycheck that we’d see this next year. WWE needs to fill 100k + seats in Texas for WrestleMania 32. You can make your reservations now and feel safe that you’ll see Sting / Taker in the semi-main event.

I laid out pretty much the same statment on Google + this morning and someone responded with this:

“What match were you watching at WM31? Sting looked like he hasn’t lost a beat and Triple H having control of most of the match is how WWE booked it.”

Well, that’s sort of true. I watched the same Sting / HHH match that guy did. I’m not saying it was a “bad” match… but the fact that these guys “only” went 18 minutes and that included run ins from the NWO & DX tells me that both of them are showing their age and can’t quite “go” the way they used to. I’m not complaining. It was one of my favorite segments on the show.  I’m just pointing out that they’re not spring chickens any more.

Sting will be 57 at the time of WrestleMania 32.  The Undertaker will be 51.  I’m afraid the match will have to REALLY rely on gimmicks. It’ll be all about the entrances & mystique. It’s not their fault… they’re old. And while I really enjoy those aspects of pro wrestling I think it’ll be very apparent that the WWE missed the boat with that match by about a decade.  I’ve got too much respect for Sting & Taker to have them go out that way.

Though as I said… I’m preparing myself for that inevitability.
